Biofouling on Oil Rig Jacket

Marine growth may add up to 30% of the final weight of an offshore oil and gas structure, which can equate to several thousand tonnes. Currents tools to estimate this prior to removal involve calculations based on arbitrary thickness and volume assumptions. Tritonia Scientific is part of the development of novel techniques to better quantify these weights, as well as characterise fouling communities as part of the Rig-to-Reef programmes.  The cost savings to the client resulting from the increased accuracy of marine growth calculations can be significant.
